Brief Description
(a) Personal diary of Joseph Bernard Chambers of Te Mata Station, 1929. Written in Whitcombe's New Zealand Handy Diary for 1929, Bernard Chambers' diary entries record the weather, his daily activities and developments at Te Mata Station.

At the front and back of the diary are advertising pages for Whitcombe and Tombs. The first section of the diary contains information on New Zealand under the following headings: Banks doing Business in New Zealand; Civil Service; Ephemeris; Legal Memoranda; New Zealand Government; Postal Regulations; Telegrams. Not listed in the Contents is a folded map of the North and South Islands showing the main highways.

The following loose documents are at the back of the diary:

(b) Directions for Applying Davol Pure Gum Urinals including a labelled diagram of the apparatus and written instructions on how to attach it to the body.

(c) Bank slip from The Bank of Australasia dated 25 October 1929. The slip records the sum of £5 to be credited to the Royal Empire Society.

(d) List recording the cost of Shepherds' whare, Rutumoana. The list includes building materials and wages.

(e) Newspaper cutting listing the share holders of Patea Farms Limited and Otupae Limited, both registered as private companies on 16 July 1926.

(f) Newspaper cutting announcing the unreserved auction sale of all leasehold and freehold lands belonging to Mount Burnett Limited as a result of the liquidation of the company. The auction of this coalmining property in the Nelson District was to be held at Hastings, Hawke's Bay, on 1 March 1929. The announcement includes details of the land, terms of sale and names of the Liquidator, L A Denton, and Solicitors Messieurs Logan, Williams and White.

(g) Note concerniing the transport of bales.

(h) Note concerning the exchange of correspondence and the transport of bales, signed: Awakaio.

(i) Newspaper cutting of instructions on how to make a waterproof whitewash.

(a) Hard cardboard cover with linen spine. The front and back covers are printed in black ink. The advertisements and New Zealand information section is printed in black ink on paper. The pages of the diary are lined and the date printed in black ink. Entries are handwritten in black ink.
