Chambers Diary 1881. The personal pocket diary of Joseph Bernard Chambers of Te Mata Station. Written on the first page is: J B Chambers Te Mata. Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. The diary describes a trip abroad to Australia. On 6 November it is written: Te Whiti John Hiroki arrested at Parihaka by the Volunteers & Constaby.
Joseph Bernard Chambers (known as Bernard) acquired the Te Mata homestead area - so these diaries will have been written by him. In the library accession book it qualifies the diaries as belonging to Te Mata.
