The diary focuses on farming and family life in Ormondville and Hawke's Bay. There are small drawings relating to each day's entry in the side column. E.g. a drawing of a crowd of people with the entry: John biked down to tells us that Hunter was in he was then leading by 400 (voters). A crowd in front of Mackies cheering as fresh returns came in.
