Brief Description
Accounts and letters regarding J A Louis Hay and F Thorp and transactions between them circa 1933-1940.

a) Account entitled: Statement of account between self and Mr Thorp, dated 2 June 1933. Includes a breakdown of money spent and lent by Thorp, Commission, fees owing to Hay on the Abbott's building and other fees.

b) Account dated 7 March 1934 of money paid to F Thorp from J A Louis Hay totalling £22. Includes calculations regarding Thorp's business.

c) Letter from J A Louis Hay to Carlile, McLean, Scannell and Wood and dated 3 February 1937. Letter makes a correction for a monetary figure on Thorp's land and building and states that Hay will visit Wood soon to discuss the necessity of amending the lease.

d) Account by J A Louis Hay and dated 18 May 1940 entitled: Own Herschell Street Office. Gives a breakdown of costs.

e) Letter from J A Louis Hay to W G Wood of Carlile, McLean, Scannell and Wood regarding the transfer of office section from Thorp to Hay and dated 16 August 1940. Hay apologises for not including Wood in negotiations. Signed by J A Louis Hay.

f) Letter from J A Louis Hay to the Under-Secretary of The Treasury regarding Earthquake Loans and dated 21 August 1939. Hay asks for an extension of Thorp's interest-free loan after he takes possession of the building as he was also affected by the 1931 earthquake.

g) Letter from J A Louis Hay to the Secretary of The Treasury regarding Earthquake Loans and dated 6 December 1939. Hay thanks the Secretary for extending Thorp's debt-free loan to himself.

h) Letter from Carlile, McLean, Scannell and Wood to Kennedy, Lusk, Morling and Willis regarding J A Louis Hay and F Thorp's agreement and dated 8 March 1940. Letter asks if the land to be transferred has been surveyed and is part of a deposited plan. Also gives an update on the loan arrangement and cost of transferring titles.

i) Letter from Carlile, McLean, Scannell and Wood to Kennedy, Lusk, Morling and Willis regarding J A Louis Hay and F Thorp's agreement dated 12 March 1940. States that Hay is considering proposals from them and will be in contact.

j) Letter from Carlile, McLean, Scannell and Wood to J A Louis Hay regarding his agreement with F Thorp and dated 15 March 1940. Letter states that Thorp has the option of paying off the mortgage or not and that Hay and Thorp are in dispute over this issue.

k) Letter from Carlile, McLean, Scannell and Wood to the Secretary of The Treasury requesting information on F Thorp's loan under the Earthquake Act of 1931 and dated 3 April 1940.
